Prime silicon wafers are higher quality and more expensive than test silicon wafers. These are manufactured by the top silicon wafer manufacturers in the world (see our Semiconductor Alliances) and their specifications tend to be tighter than those of test silicon wafers. When thickness variation, flatness, tight resistivities, or other characteristics are critical to the application then prime silicon wafers will be required.
